31 декабря мы будем не только встречать Новый Год, но и отмечать годовщину важного экологического события.
Именно в этот день, в 1970 году, конгресс США внес поправки в закон о чистом воздухе (Clean Air Act), принятый еще в 1963 году. Это событие коренным образом повлияло на развитие не только американского, но и мирового автомобилестроения. Закон ужесточил предельные содержания вредных веществ в атмосфере, обязал автопроизводителей сократить их выброс на 90%. Это положило конец эре мощных и прожорливых «muscle cars» в американском автомобилестроении. Жесткие меры против добавок из свинца означали отказ от этилированного бензина, что серьезно снижало рабочие характеристики тогдашних моторов. Обязательным элементом конструкции вскоре стал каталитический нейтрализатор отработанных газов, также отбиравший мощность. Примеру США вскоре последовали и в других странах. Это вскоре привело к прекращению производства карбюраторных моторов и всеобщему переходу на электронный впрыск топлива.
